Top 10 underrated RHCP songs

25. So much I

Just a really fun hard-hitting song with a mellow interior, with a fantastic bassline from Flea and guitar shredding from John.

24. Knock me down

One of the best breakdowns alongside Goodbye Angels, funky and melodic at the same time, with some female vocals in the chorus.

23. Castles make of sand

One of the few bonus tracks in this list, doesn't really fit the rest of Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik album but can easily fit in your summer playlist. Better enjoyed at night with good company and a beer.

22. Police station

"I'm with you" didn't have as good a reception as the rest of RHCP's albums, but it has a few great, lesser known tracks, and Police station is one of them. Has a ballad-y feel to it with Josh doing his bets Frusciante impression on the guitar.

21. Storm in a teacup

This is a personal choice as it's one of the weirdest songs I've heard from the group but damn is it good. Kiedis is having a breakdown in the beginning and the lyrics are almost nonsensical but it's so funky you can't but move bop to the rhythm when you listen to it.

20. My lovely man

John's guitar licks are great in this one, as are Chad's rhythmic drum beats. Could easily headbang to this.

19. Porcelain

More like a lullaby than a song, not the most lively thing they have put out but one of their most beautiful songs for sure. Would recommend listening before going to bed to clear your brain and let Kiedis sing you to sleep.

18. Meet me at the corner

Another summer-y ballad from "I'm with you", with lyrics about messing up a relationship and getting a second chance with someone you love. Vocals are top notch on this one.

17. Don't forget me

It's chorus is one of the band's most heartbreaking ones. It talks about addiction, feeling useless and a nuisance and "a love that knows the way" that will get you through these rough patches.

16. Pretty little ditty

Everybody knows this little song from Crazy Town's "Butterfly" which sampled it but not many actually know where it comes from. Well, now you know.

15. The hunter

The opening piano & atmospheric electric guitar eases you into a lonely mood for this thoughtful track from "The Getaway". One of the most mature songs of the record, with Josh's gentle guitar stealing the show.

14. Falling into grace

The weird distorted vocals blend perfectly with the funky beat provided by Flea and Chad, and the chorus just sticks around for a while after you've listened to the song.

13. Behind the sun

Only song in here from "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan", which generally had songs that don't fit my music tastes as much as the newer albums but Behind the Sun set the precedent from how much they can vary their style, like a perfect blend of old and new.

12. Search and destroy (The Stooges cover)

Okay this is cheating a bit because it's not their song but I'll be damned if they didn't absolutely nail the cover. Their live in Paris with Kiedis claiming to not know the lyrics and John whispering them in his ear for a bit, until he says "he'll make them up as he goes" and after which they all start dancing epileptically is hilarious.

11. She looks to me

10.This velvet glove

One of the best uses of acoustic guitar from the band (alongside Road Trippin', but I thought that was too well-known to be put in this list), and it fits like a (velvet) glove in this particular song. I'm sorry.

9. Encore

Might not be as underrated as other songs in the list but, being one of the newest ones, people who gave up on RHCP might have not had the chance to listen to this masterpiece, full with amazing production and vocals, references to California and other classic RHCP-ness.

8. I could have lied

Probably one of the most well-known songs in this list but still not in the band's top 10 starter pack songs so here goes. Great intro from Frusciante in the beginning and just an all-around great song to show to people who claim to not like the band.

7. Hard to concentrate

Most relatable song title for sure, a really sweet and endearing song with top notch guitar as usual. The "here we go" part before John's solo is perfect and the second best one-liner behind...

6. Readymade

This song is John's show once again, with some of the best guitar plating we've seen from him in his time with the Peppers. Τhe "clean it up, Johnny" followed by Frusciante fucking murdering a solo is one of the most epic moments in the band's history.

5. Throw away your television

Can't be understated how amazing the bassline is in this thing and for sure this one is Flea's time to shine. Can't argue with the title name either, it's one of the band's few songs talking about media and it's influences on society. Oh and drums are top notch as well, but what else is new.

4. Quixoticelixer

Starts off mellow and like something you'd listen while surfing in California before doing a 180 and turning into a hard-hitter with some serious guitar and drum breakdowns. Cannot for the life of me figure out how this didn't make "Californication"'s A-side.

3. Animal bar

Best chorus in this list, by far, will never fail to get me hyped. The guitar licks in the background and Frusciante's backing vocals are incredible, and Chad's drumming during the chorus is the definite MVP.

2. Turn it again

Not exactly what to say about the song apart from it's murderous solo and overall incredible chorus and breakdown. Some of Frusciante's best shredding is found in this song, and whoever says that RHCP are boring should just listen to this.

1. Hey

My absolute favourite RHCP song and my absolute favourite solo ever. The whole song is great, Kiedis' vocals and John's backing vocals make it into a very sweet and chill tune that you can relax to. Then John starts making love to his guitar around the 4 minute mark and you better close your eyes because it is FILTHY. Completely orgasmic sounds and RHCP's most underrated song, in my humble opinion.
